December 28, 2021 Results of Fifth Meeting of Japan-Viet Nam Joint ICT Working Group

On December 27, 2021, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Information and Communications of Viet Nam held the fifth meeting (online) of the Japan-Viet Nam ICT Joint Working Group. The participants from Japan were headed by Mr. ONODERA Osamu, Director General for International Affairs under MIC’s Global ICT Strategy Bureau. Those from Viet Nam were led by Mr. Trieu Minh Long, Director-General of the International Cooperation Department.
At the meeting, Japan and Viet Nam discussed their future cooperation in digital transformation (DX), cybersecurity, 5G, and anti-piracy.

4. Results of meeting

At the meeting, Japan and Viet Nam discussed their future cooperation in digital transformation (DX), cybersecurity, 5G, and anti-piracy.

1. Digital Transformation (DX)

Japan introduced its policies on the overseas deployment of ICT infrastructure that contribute to the promotion of DX and the efforts of private companies to promote DX and agreed to continue sharing information on policies and specific efforts to promote DX.

2. Cybersecurity

The two countries strengthened the cooperative relationship for capacity building in cybersecurity through the AJCCBC*1 and cybersecurity-related technical cooperation projects. The two sides also confirmed that they would continue exchanging information in cybersecurity.

3. 5G

Japan introduced its 5G and local 5G policies and exchanged opinions on Open RAN, vRAN*2, and other initiatives. The two sides also agreed to continue discussions on implementing local 5G demonstration tests in Vietnam and the possibility of their cooperation in the 5G field.

4. Anti-piracy measures

Viet Nam shared Japan’s policies and specific efforts to combat Internet piracy. At the same time, Japan encouraged Vietnam to formulate a system to disclose sender information and share information on identifying pirated website operators.
