February 5, 2021 Appeal for Proposals for Activities to Support Standardization of Intellectual Property at Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center

On December 18, 2020, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), in cooperation with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, launched the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center. The establishment of the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center was based on Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy―Roadmap to 6G (June 2020), a policy promoted by MIC and other government agencies. The Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center aims to acquire and standardize intellectual property under industry-academia-government cooperation strategically and intellectually.
In this connection, MIC will make an appeal for proposals from Friday, February 5 through Thursday, March 4, 2021, to contribute to studies that the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center will conduct.

1. Purpose

MIC launched the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center on December 18, 2020, based on Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy―Roadmap to 6G (June 2020), a policy promoted by MIC and other government agencies. The Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center (headed by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo and YANAGAWA Noriyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo, with its secretariat located at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) aims to acquire and standardize intellectual property with the participation of major industry-academia-government players strategically and intellectually.
The Center will promote the formation of markets that will make full use of intellectual property and standardization. Furthermore, the Center will support the efforts of private companies and universities to promote the development of innovative technologies and services and social implementation proactively and strategically. While supporting these efforts, the Center will provide reference information and places for cooperation and conduct public awareness activities.
This appeal aims to contribute to studies that the Center will conduct. Accordingly, MIC expects a wide range of proposals for support activities of companies and universities for the standardization of intellectual property.
