February 9, 2021 Announcement of Survey on Utilization of VHF Band (95 to 108 MHz)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for proposals and conducted an entry request survey from Wednesday, December 9, 2020, through Monday, January 18, 2021. MIC looked forward to receiving proposals for VHF band utilization measures related to terrestrial basic broadcasting for mobile reception to contribute to a study on using the VHF band (95 to 108 MHz). As a result, there were no entry requests, while 13 proposals were received on utilization measures.

1. Background

The service of terrestrial basic broadcasting for mobile reception using the VHF band (limited to frequencies from 95 to 108 MHz, the condition of which applies hereafter) for the general public finished at the end of March 2, 2020. Accordingly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) conducted an entry request survey related to terrestrial basic broadcasting for mobile reception, and at the same time, made an appeal for proposals for VHF band utilization measures.
As a result, there were no entry requests, while MIC received 13 opinions on utilization measures, and MIC has decided to open the opinions to the public.

2. Future plans

Considering the contents of the proposals, MIC will study concrete utilization measures for the VHF band.
