February 12, 2021 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Guidelines on Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities (Edition 1.1)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has drafted a partial revision to the Guidelines for the Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities. Accordingly, MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft from February 13 through Monday, March 15, 2021.

1. Overview

MIC released the Guidelines for the Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities on May 8, 2020. The purpose of the guidelines is to show the basic idea, the way of discussions, and matters to be noted for the smooth transition of optical fiber cables and related facilities owned by local governments to the private sector. MIC is currently considering adding the guidelines to the disposal of the property of public facilities damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and other disasters.

2. Period of submission

From Saturday, February 13 through Monday, March 15, 2021.

    Opinions by postal mail reaching after the deadline date will be accepted if postmarked on or before the deadline date.

3. Future plans

Considering the result of the appeal for opinions, MIC will finalize and release the Guidelines on Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities (Edition 1.1).
