February 12, 2021 Acceptance of Applications for Authorization of Establishment Plans on Specified Base Stations for Spreading Fifth-generation Mobile Communications System

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has decided to accept applications from today through Monday, March 15, 2021, to authorize establishment plans on specified base stations for spreading the fifth-generation mobile communications system.

1. Background and overview

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, MIC submitted an inquiry about the draft notice on the Guidelines for Establishing Specific Base Stations for the Spread of the Fifth-generation Mobile Communications System to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chaired by Susumu Yoshida, Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University). MIC received a report today from the Council stating the appropriateness of the draft as inquired.
Accordingly, MIC has today established the Guidelines, and under the provisions of Article 27-13, Paragraph 3 of the Radio Act (Act No. 131 of 1950), set the application period for the authorization of establishment plans on specific base stations for the spread of the fifth-generation mobile communication system as specified below.

From 8:30 am on Friday, February 12 through 5:15 pm on Monday, March 15, 2021.
