February 26, 2021 Implementation of Wide FM Publicity Enhancement

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) supports the development of FM complementary relay stations for FM complementary broadcasting (wide FM) implemented by private broadcasters for fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts and disaster countermeasures.
MIC will reinforce public relations from Friday, February 26 through Wednesday, March 31, 2021, as a period of wide FM publicity enhancement, with the catchphrase “Are you listening? Wide FM!”

1. Purpose

MIC has been supporting and promoting FM supplementary broadcasting (wide FM) by private radio broadcasters as countermeasures against fringe areas of AM radio broadcasts and disaster countermeasures. That is, countermeasures against urban fringe areas and geographical/topographic fringe areas). In the future, the coverage area of FM supplementary broadcasting will be expanded further.
MIC has decided to make a variety of publicity activities intensively and concentratedly. These activities will provide a deeper understanding of the significance and effects of FM supplementary broadcasting (wide FM) and allow as many people as possible to listen to radio broadcasting. The activities will continue from Tuesday, February 25 through Tuesday, March 31, with the slogan “Period of Wide FM Publicity Enhancement―Are you listening? Wide FM!”

2. Public Relations Efforts

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will take steps 1 to 3 as specified below with the catchphrase “Are you listening? Wide FM!”

    Posting posters at various events and public facilities (from Friday, February 26)

    Web video uploaded to YouTube’s MIC Video Channel (From Monday, March 1)

    In-train public relations on subways in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kansai area (From Monday, March 1 through Sunday, March 14).
