March 1, 2021 Decision on Granting Subsidies for Subsidized Projects on IoT Testbeds and Reginal Data Centers (Eighth Time)

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT, headed by TOKUDA Hideyuki, President) has decided on granting subsidies to projects on the service of innovative technology development facilities (used as IoT testbeds) and regional specific telecommunications facilities (used for regional data centers) under the Act on Facilitation of Implementation of Project for Development of Specified Communication and Broadcasting (Act No. 35 of 1990).

1. Subsidy project overview

This subsidy project aims to develop facilities (used as IoT testbeds) to develop and demonstrate new telecommunications technology that will contribute to the realization of the Internet of Things (IoT). Also, the project aims to promote the regional decentralization of facilities (used for regional data centers) that are important for the distribution of huge amounts of data. The project subsidizes part of the funds required to implement new technology development facility (IoT testbed) services and regional specific telecommunications facility (regional data center) services.

2. Status of grant decision

One application (a regional data center project, and there is no IoT testbed project this time) was selected as a result of a public appeal for subsidized projects (from Friday, October 23 through December 18, 2021) and the assessment of an evaluation committee composed of external experts.

3. Grant total

Granted amount: 10 million yen
