March 10, 2021 Authorization of Change to the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry today to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chaired by HIBINO Takashi, Chairman of the Board, Daiwa Securities Group Inc.) concerning authorization for a change to the Broadcasting Reception Rules (hereafter referred to as the “Reception Rules”) of Japan Broadcasting Corporation (also called NHK for short, headed by MAEDA Terunobu, President) based on the provision of Article 64, Paragraph 3 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132 of 1950). Then MIC received a report from the Council stating its approval as inquired.
In response to this report, MIC’s will promptly make authorization for this matter.

1. Summary of change

Considering the influence of COVID-19infection, NHK is taking measures for receivers, including the elimination of the need to pay delay interests for a period from April 2020 through March 2021. This authorization will change the Reception Rules to extend receiver’s immunity from delayed interests until September 2021.

2. Period of implementation

The change will take effect on April 1, 2021.
