March 16, 2021 Results of Acceptance of Applications for Authorization of Establishment Plans for Specified Base Stations for Diffusion of 5G Mobile Communications Systems

From Friday, February 12 through Monday, March 15, 2021, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) accepted applications for the authorization of establishment plans on specified base stations to diffuse fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications systems and received four applications.

1. Applicants (listed alphabetically)

  • KDDI Corporation (TAKAHASHI Makoto, President, Representative Director)/Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company (YUASA Hideo, Representative Director and President)
  • NTT Docomo Inc. (II Motoyuki, President and Chief Executive Officer)
  • Rakuten Mobile, Inc. (YAMADA Yoshihisa, Representative Director and President)
  • SoftBank Corp. (MIYAUCHI Ken, President and CEO)
  • *
    KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company applied as partners in each region. Therefore, these applications are considered a single application under Paragraph 9, Item 2 of MIC Notice No. 40 (Matters that specify guidelines for setting up specified base stations for the spread of fifth-generation mobile communication systems).

2. Plans

In the future, after reviewing the applications received, MIC will consult with Radio Regulatory Council in approving the opening plans.
