The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has requested LINE Corporation (headed by IDEZAWA Takeshi, CEO and President) to report on the management status of users' information according to the provisions of the Telecommunications Business Act, with regard to the case where it was possible to access users' personal information kept in the Japanese server

Outline of the case

Part of the system development and operation of the communication app "LINE" provided by LINE Corporation is being conducted by an affiliated company based in China and there was a case where it was possible to access users' personal information kept on the Japanese server. Therefore, from the perspective of ensuring the smooth provision of telecommunications services and ensuring users' interests in telecommunications services, MIC requested a report on necessary information today according to Article 166, Paragraph 1 of the Telecommunications Business Act.

About the case where the system development and operation of LINE was partly conducted by an affiliated company based in China and tt was possible to access users' personal information on the Japanese server, as LINE Corporation announced on March 17 of this year.

  • Status of securing a system necessary for protecting personal information and secrecy of communications
