March 23, 2021 Result of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Guidelines on Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities (Edition 1.1) and Release of the Guidelines

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions on a draft of the Guidelines for the Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities (Edition 1.1) from February 13 through Monday, March 17, 2021. Accordingly, MIC has decided to open the result of the appeal for opinions, along with the finalized Guidelines for the Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities (Edition 1.1).

Result of appeal for opinions

MIC released the Guidelines for the Privatization of Public Optical Fiber Cables and Related Facilities on May 8, 2020. The purpose of the guidelines is to show the basic idea, the way of discussions, and matters to be noted for the smooth transition of optical fiber cables and related facilities owned by local governments to the private sector. Recently, MIC considered adding the guidelines with the disposal of the property of public facilities damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and other disasters and drafted the revision and made this appeal for opinions from February 13 through Monday, March 17, 2021, in response to which two opinions were submitted.
