April 16, 2021 Organizing Study Group on Utilization of Viewing Data on Broadcasting Field and Ideal State of Privacy Protection

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will organize a Study Group on the Utilization of Viewing Data on the Broadcasting Field and the Ideal State of Privacy Protection to consider the formulation of rules to achieve the utilization of viewing data and protection of privacy.

1. Background and purpose

The Act Partially Amending the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, etc. (Act No. 44 of 2020) will be fully enforced on April 1, 2022. Accordingly, it is necessary to revise the Guidelines on Personal Information Protection of Broadcast Recipients etc. (MIC Notice No. 159 of 2017). Accordingly, MIC has decided to organize the Study Group on the Utilization of Viewing Data on the Broadcasting Field and the Ideal State of Privacy Protection to consider rules to utilize viewing data and protect privacy.

2. Key considerations

The Study Group will examine the following items.

    Revision of broadcasting field guidelines, etc. based on the revision of Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003)
  • 2.
    Arrangement of the relationship between broadcasting field guidelines and other guidelines etc.
  • 3.
    Others

The first meeting will be held on April 27, 2021, and held sequentially after that.
