April 30, 2021 Public Appeal of Proposals for Beyond 5G R & D Promotion Project

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) is now accepting applications for researchers involved in a Beyond 5G research and development (R & D) promotion project.

1. Purpose

NICT will conduct open-call research and development with private companies and universities on the elemental technologies necessary for the realization of Beyond 5G, the next-generation information and communication technology that is expected to become the foundation of all industries and societies in the 2030s. This project will strengthen Japan’s international competitiveness by establishing elemental technologies and reflecting them in international standards.

2. Content of public appeal

NICT has decided to make a public appeal for researchers involved in the Beyond 5G R & D promotion project as specified below.

1. Subjects of appeal

Programs of beyond 5G function realization type (core assignment)

  • Beyond 5G spatial multiplex optical network that supports ultra-large-capacity wireless communications
  • R & D of node technology
  • R & D of wireless communications technology that realizes ultra-high-speed, large-capacity communications using the terahertz band
  • R & D for the realization of extended terminal wireless communications systems utilizing the terahertz band for Beyond 5G
  • R & D of radio-optical fusion wireless communications systems for Beyond 5G ultra-large-capacity wireless network
