May 28, 2021 Results of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Report of Internet Traffic Study Group and Release of Report

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions from Tuesday, April 6 through Friday, May 7, 2021, on a draft report of the Internet Traffic Study Group (chaired by HAYASHI Shuya, Professor, Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University). Accordingly, MIC has opened the report to the public along with the submitted opinions.

1. Background

Since December 2020, this study group has acknowledged various issues of internet connection with stakeholders (telecommunications carriers, content providers, users) and considered necessary actions to address the issues. The draft report of the study group was presented at the 6th meeting (held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021).

2. Result of appeal for opinions and release of report

MIC made the appeal for opinions on the draft, and received 18 opinions. With consideration of these opinions and the results of discussions at the 7th meeting of the study group (held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021), the report was finalized, and MIC has opened it to the public.
