May 31, 2021 Nomination of Candidates for Adoption for Subsidies on Support Projects to Promote Utilization of Information and Communications (under the Project on Development Promotion of Regional Satellite Offices) FY2021 Budget and Additional Public Appeal (Secondary Appeal)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has nominated candidates for adoption for subsidies on the costs of support projects to promote the utilization of information and communications (under the project on the development promotion of regional satellite offices). This project is to develop a social environment where people can enjoy a new working environment regardless of any specific region. Furthermore, MIC decided to make an additional public appeal for proposals from today through June 30, 2021.

1. Project overview

The project aims to promote a social environment where people can enjoy a telework environment regardless of regions by supporting satellite offices that provide places for telework. MIC will subsidize the costs of developing satellite offices that will function for others while ensuring a certain security level and taking measures against the novel coronavirus infectious disease.

2. Contents of decision

As a result of the public appeal for opinions, MIC received a total of three proposals. Of these, the following two were selected as candidates for adoption.

1. Requirements

Requirements for implementing organizations

  • Each implementing organization needs a legal personality and must represent a local public body (except for prefectures, special wards, designated cities, and core cities) or needs to be a consortium that includes one or more of the local public bodies concerned

Requirements for proposed projects

  • A proposed project must ensure a certain level of security (satisfying the basic measures specified as security measures desired in shared offices, etc. by the Japan Telework Association and the Secure IoT Platform Consortium)
  • Measures are required against novel coronavirus infectious disease

Subsidy rate/Upper limit of subsidy

  • The subsidy rate is 1/2 of the project cost (with an upper subsidy limit of 20 million yen)

No later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2021

4. Future schedule*

    July 2021: Evaluation by external experts or MIC and selection of candidates for adoption

    From August 2021: Application for the grant, grant decision, and implementation of subsidy projects (tentatively planned)
