May 31, 2021 Result of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Telework Security Guidelines (5th Edition), and Release of the Finished Guidelines

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions widely from Monday, February 15 through Friday, March 5, 2021, on a draft revision of the Telework Security Guidelines (5th edition).
As a result, 20 opinions were submitted. Accordingly, MIC summarized them and has decided to open the same to the public, MIC’s views on the opinions, and the definitive version of the Guidelines.

1. Background and overview

MIC published the Telework Security Guidelines* to dispel security concerns when implementing telework and to introduce, and utilize telework with peace of mind.

    1st edition in December 2004, 2nd edition in April 2006, 3rd edition in March 2013, and 4th edition in April 2018

Recently, the environment surrounding telework has been changing due to the expansion of the introduction of telework including online meetings, the spread of cloud services and the further progress of the use of smartphones. At the same time, security trends are changing due to the sophistication of cyberattacks. Therefore, MIC decided to revise the Telework Security Guidelines completely. Accordingly, MIC made an appeal for a wide range of opinions on the draft of the revised version (5th edition) from Monday, February 15 through Friday, March 5, 2021.

2. Result of appeal for opinions

As a result of the appeal for opinions, MIC received 20 opinions. Considering the opinions submitted, MIC has decided to release the Telework Security Guidelines (5th edition).
