June 10, 2021 Announcement about Result of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Basic Policy on Utilization Measures for V-Low Band (95 MHz to 108 MHz) Compiled by Study Subcommittee on Utilization Measures for Broadcast Frequencies

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions from Wednesday, March 24 through Thursday, April 22, 2021, on a draft basic policy on utilization measures for the V-Low band (95 MHz to 108 MHz). This draft was compiled by the Study Subcommittee on Utilization Measures for Broadcast Frequencies (chaired by ITO Susumu, part-time professor, Faculty of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science). In response, 55 opinions were submitted.
Considering the result, the Study Subcommittee finalized the basic policy on utilization measures for the V-Low band (95 MHz to 108 MHz). Accordingly, MIC will open the same to the public, together with the result of the appeal for the opinions.

Background

MIC organized the Study Subcommittee on Utilization Measures under the Study Group on Various Issues over Broadcasting (chaired by TAGAYA Kazuteru, Professor Emeritus at Chiba University) to hold meetings to examine various utilization measures from the perspective of effectively utilizing frequencies allocated for broadcasting. In response to the termination of the service of basic terrestrial broadcasting for mobile reception using the V-Low band (95 MHz to 108 MHz) for the public at the end of March 2020, the Study Subcommittee has been considering measures to utilize the band.
The Study Subcommittee recently drafted the basic policy on utilization measures for the V-Low band (95 MHz to 108 MHz), and MIC made the appeal for opinions on the draft from Wednesday, March 24 through Thursday, April 22, 2021. As a result, 55 opinions were submitted.
Considering the result, the Study Subcommittee finalized the basic policy on utilization measures for the V-Low band (95 MHz to 108 MHz). Therefore, MIC has decided to open the same to the public, together with the result of the appeal.
