July 16, 2021 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Interim Report from Study Group on Platform Services

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will make an appeal for opinions from Saturday, July 17 through Friday, August 20, 2021, on a draft interim report from the Study Group on Platform Services (chaired by SHISHIDO Joji, professor, Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, The University of Tokyo). This draft report describes measures against illegal and harmful information on the Internet and ensuring the appropriate handling of user information.

2. Overview

This study group is discussing how to deal with illegal and harmful information on the Internet and how to handle user information. To provide a reference for future studies, MIC has decided to make this appeal for opinions on the draft interim report recently compiled by the Study Group on Platform Services.

3. Procedure of appeal for opinions and submission form

4. Submission deadline

No later than Friday, August 20, 2021 (Opinions submitted by postal mail must also arrive no later than the deadline date.)

5. Matters to be kept in mind

Please be reminded that MIC is not able to give any specific answer to opinions submitted.

6. Future plans

Considering the result of the appeal for opinions, the Study Group will finalize the interim report.
