― Release of New Issues and Measures to Establish Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth

The Taskforce on Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth (Chief Investigator: NAKAMURA Ichiya, President of The Professional University of Information and Management for Innovation (iU)) recently released a report entitled “New Issues and Measures to Establish Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth.” This report includes the status of efforts based on “Issues and Measures to Promote Youth’s Use of Filtering” (a report of August 2019) for the steady implementation of the revised Act on Development of an Environment that Provides Safe and Secure Internet Use for Young People (enacted in February 2018), considering recent changes in the Internet environment surrounding young people.

1. Background and overview

In order to develop a safe and secure Internet use environment for youth, the Taskforce on Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth has been studying the role of each party involved in awareness-raising activities for the appropriate use of the Internet and filtering services as an effective means of protecting youth since April 2016.
The Taskforce recently organized new issues related to developing a safe and secure Internet usage environment for youth into a report, including measures to be taken by the public and private sectors to resolve them. The report is entitled “New Issues and Measures to Establish Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth.” This report includes the status of efforts based on “Issues and Measures to Promote Youth’s Use of Filtering” (a report of August 2019) for the steady implementation of the revised Act on Development of an Environment that Provides Safe and Secure Internet Use for Young People (enacted in February 2018), considering recent changes in the Internet environment surrounding young people. Therefore, MIC has decided to open the report as shown in attached PDF 1 to the public.

2. Future plans

In the future, the Taskforce will follow up on the status of efforts made by the parties concerned regarding the “New Issues and Measures to Establish Safe and Secure Internet Use Environment for Youth.”
