July 30, 2021 Release of 2021 “Report on Current Status of Information and Communications” (2021 White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today released 2021 “Report on Current Status of Information and Communications” (2021 White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan).

MIC publishes “Report on Current Status of Information and Communications” (White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan) every year to gain the public’s understanding of the current state of information and communications and trends in Japan’s information and communications policies. This is the 49th release since the first release in 1973.

This year’s white paper features “Livelihood and Economy Supported by Digital Technologies.” This theme looks back at Japan’s digitalization efforts to date. It examines the current status and challenges of utilizing digital technologies in citizen’s lives, corporate activities, and the public sector. It also examines the changes caused by accelerated digitalization in the novel coronavirus pandemic. It then analyzes the need for strategic and integrated efforts to improve the digital capabilities of the citizen and to digitalize the public sector and the private corporations to realize a resilient society that can cope with infectious diseases and natural disasters.
