August 20, 2021 Appeal for Opinions on FY2021 Draft Survey Plan on Monitoring of Implementation Status of Consumer Protection Rules

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) drafted a plan to conduct a periodic survey for fiscal 2021 and a trend analysis of complaints to investigate the implementation status of consumer protection rules based on the Telecommunications Business Act.
Accordingly, MIC will make an appeal for opinions on the draft from Saturday, August 21 through Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

1. Overview

MIC has been holding periodic meetings for monitoring the implementation status of consumer protection rules since September 2016 on the implementation status of consumer protection rules based on MIC’s basic policy for supervising the user protection discipline of telecommunications businesses (specified by MIC’s Telecommunications Bureau on May 2008). A trend analysis of complaints has been conducted to clarify the number and significant causes of complaints. This analysis is a part of the initiatives of the periodic meetings. This analysis has been made in addition to an annual survey on the status of business operations.
In conducting the periodic survey and trend analysis of complaints for this fiscal year, MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft plan.
