August 23, 2021 Appeal for Eligible Companies, Organizations, etc. for the Regional Formulation of Local 5G Implementation Plans and Participants for Online Seminar on Local 5G

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to provide support for companies, organizations, etc. in making plans for the implementation of local 5G systems through a contractor (PwC Consulting LLC, hereafter referred to as the “Secretariat”). This support aims to accelerate studies and solve issues regionally using local 5G systems.
Furthermore, MIC will hold an online seminar on local 5G before the support and appeal for participants for the seminar.

1. Overview

MIC is promoting efforts towards the spread of local 5G, which allows various entities, such as local companies and local governments, to flexibly build their own 5G systems according to their individual needs.
In this project, to accelerate study to solve issues regionally using local 5G systems, MIC has decided to support local 5G implementation plans. Accordingly, MIC has decided to hold the online seminar to introduce the basics of local 5G and support in detail for implementation plans.

  In principle, participation in the online seminar (see 2. below) is required to apply for the support for implementation plans (see 3. below).

2. Outline of online seminar on local 5G

1. Targeted participants

• Companies, organizations, etc. that want to acquire local 5G knowledge
• Companies, organizations, etc. that are interested in the support for the formulation of local 5G implementation plans.

2. Program

• Part 1: Basic knowledge of radio waves
• Part 2: Basic knowledge of local 5G
• Part 3: Introduction of support in detail for implementation plans

3. Place and time

Three sessions will be held via a web conference system.

• Session 1: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021
• Session 2: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021
• Session 3: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021

  Each session has the same content, covering Part 1 through Part 3 of the program shown in 2.

3. Outline of support for the formulation of local 5G implementation plans

1. Target participants

Companies, organizations, etc. that are planning on or considering the implementation of local 5G systems

2. Support contents

MIC will provide consulting services to companies, organizations, etc., selected from the applicants, focusing on the following aspects to formulate their local 5G implementation plans. The support period is about eight weeks, and up to six web conferences will be held during this period.

• Organizing specific ways to utilize local 5G systems to solve issues
• Organizing and clarifying the background and purpose of introducing local 5G systems in each company, organization, etc., and what they aim to achieve after implementation.
• Organizing implementation items and scheduling the implementation of local 5G systems

  Local 5G implementation plans are to be developed by applicants. Therefore, applicants must undertake the work and review associated with the formulation of the plan by themselves.

  There is no charge involved with this service, but applicants must bear the communication costs for providing support. Furthermore, this support does not provide grants or funds for development or implementation.

  The support may be terminated depending on the progress in formulating implementation plans or the withdrawal of applicants.
