September 28, 2021 Release of “Toward the Diffusion of ICT Equipment Accessible to People with Disabilities (Summary of Main Opinions)”

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) have compiled the opinions of experts at a study meeting on promoting disability-friendly ICT devices held since August this year and will publish them as a document entitled “Toward the Diffusion of ICT Equipment Accessible to People with Disabilities (Summary of Main Opinions).”

1. Overview

Since August this year, MIC and MHLW have been holding the study meeting on promoting disability-friendly ICT devices, led by Mr. SHINTANI Masayoshi, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and Mr. YAMAMOTO Hiroshi, State Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. The purpose of this study meeting is to obtain advice from experts and effectively promote measures for the development and dissemination of ICT equipment accessible to people with disabilities. This purpose is based on the perspective of ensuring information accessibility to realize an inclusive society (a society of symbiotic digital use) where everyone, regardless of disability, can enjoy the convenience of digital use and lead a rich life with diverse values and lifestyles.
MIC and MHLW have compiled the opinions from the study meeting and release them as a document entitled “Toward the Diffusion of ICT Equipment Accessible to People with Disabilities (Summary of Main Opinions).”
MIC and MHLW, with consideration of the experts’ opinions in this study meeting, will work together with the ministries and agencies concerned to promote specific measures for the further development and spread of ICT equipment accessible to people with disabilities and for the acceleration of its social implementation.
