September 28, 2021 Partial Report from Information and Communications Council on Technical Requirements for Telecommunications Facilities in Response to the Spread of IoT

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council (chaired by UCHIYAMADA Takeshi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Toyota Motor Corporation). This report specifies technical requirements for telecommunications facilities in response to the spread of IoT as a part of Inquiry No. 2020 of October 31, 2005, about technical requirements for telecommunications facilities corresponding to the switchover of networks to IP.

1. Background

In light of the sophistication of communications networks and the diversification of usage patterns accompanying the spread of IoT in recent years, the Information and Communications Council has been studying technical requirements for telecommunications facilities in response to the spread of IoT since November 2017 as a part of technical requirements for telecommunications facilities corresponding to the switchover of networks to IP.*
The IP Network Facilities Subcommittee of the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council studied from March through September 2021 on the ideal system for reporting and verifying telecommunications accidents to ensure safe, secure, and reliable information and telecommunications networks, and summarized its fifth report. The Department on Information and Communications Technology deliberated on the contents of the fifth report, and MIC has today received the partial report from the Information and Communication Council.

    On the result of the study at the IP Network Facilities Subcommittee of the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council, MIC received the first report in September 2018, the second report in May 2019, the third report in March 2020, and the fourth report in November 2020, from the Information and Communications Council.
