January 26, 2022 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Revisions to Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Postal Service Sector, Explanation of the Guidelines, Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Correspondence Mail Sector, and Explanation of the Guidelines in response to Amended Act on the Protection of Personal Information

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) drafted revisions to the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Postal Service Sector (MIC Notice No. 167 of 2017), the Explanation of the Guidelines, the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Correspondence Mail Sector (MIC Notice No. 168 of 2017), and the Explanation of the Guidelines (hereafter referred to as the “Guidelines and Explanations”). These revisions resulted from MIC’s study on matters needed to be reviewed in accordance with the enforcement of partial amendments to Act on the Protection of Personal Information, enacted in 2020 and 2021.
Accordingly, MIC will make an appeal for opinions on the draft revisions from Thursday, January 27 through Friday, February 25, 2022.

1. Subject of appeal for opinions

  • Draft revisions to the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Postal Service Sector (MIC Notice No. 167 of 2017)
  • Draft revisions to the Explanation of the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Postal Service Sector
  • Draft revisions to the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Correspondence Mail Sector (MIC Notice No. 168 of 2017)
  • Draft revisions to the Explanation of the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information in the Correspondence Mail Sector

2. Submission period

From Thursday, January 27 and no later than Friday, February 25, 2022

3. Future plans

Considering the results of the appeal for opinions, MIC will promptly revise the Guidelines and the Explanations.
