October 4, 2022 Receipt of Serious Accident Report from Rakuten Mobile, Inc.

Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a serious accident report from Rakuten Mobile, Inc. (YAZAWA Shunsuke, Representative Director and President). This report was made under Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act (Act No. 86 of 1984) concerning a communications failure in mobile phone services that occurred on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

1. Background

On Sunday, September 4, 2022, Rakuten Mobile, Inc. experienced a communications failure with their mobile phone services.
Today, the company submitted to MIC a serious incident report on the circumstances, cause, recurrence prevention measures, and other matters concerning the failure based on Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act.

2. Future schedule

MIC will examine the contents of the report and consider necessary measures.
