October 21, 2022 Holding of Second Briefing Session on Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will provide the Second Briefing Session on Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions through on-demand delivery in order to help medical personnel gain a better understanding of the importance of the safe and secure use of equipment that utilizes radio waves, such as medical telemetry. The lectures delivered in this briefing session cover essential points for safe and secure radio wave use in medical institutions, such as examples of problems and major issues relating to medical equipment that utilizes radio waves, and countermeasures to be taken to cope with such problems and issues, and also cover examples of advanced radio wave use in medical institutions. Participants can choose lectures depending on their interest. MIC hopes many participants will join.

1. Delivery period

Second session: From 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022
The third session is scheduled to be held in January 2023. Details will be announced separately.

3. Content of the second session

Participants can choose the lectures that they are interested in from among the following three.

1. Essential points for safe and secure radio wave use in medical institutions

Lecture 1: For safe and secure radio wave use in medical institutions-Revision of the Guide and issues and countermeasures learned from case examples (about one hour)

Lecturer: ATARASHI Hidenao, Lecturer, Department of Healthcare Information Management, The University of Tokyo Hospital

  • The lecture will introduce the revised version of the Guide for Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions published in July 2021 by the Electromagnetic Compatibility Conference Japan (EMCC).
  • This lecture is the same as the one delivered as part of the Seminar in Aichi on Safe Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions held by the Tokai Bureau of Telecommunications (held on January 29, 2022, and distributed from February 7 to 21, 2022).

Lecture 2: Guidelines and Descriptions for Building Plan Considering the Use of Radio Wave Equipment on Medical Institutions-For Wireless Medical Telemetry Systems (about one hour)

Lecturer: KAWABE Manabu, Lecturer, School of Clinical Engineering, Faculty of Health & Medical Care, Saitama Medical University

  • This lecture will introduce the Guidelines and Descriptions for Building Plan Considering the Use of Radio Wave Equipment on Medical Institutions-For Wireless Medical Telemetry Systems, published by the Architectural Institute of Japan in September 2021.
  • This lecture is the same as the one delivered as part of the Briefing Session on Safe and Secure Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions held by the Kinki Bureau of Telecommunications (distributed from October 15 to November 15, 2021).

2. Points on advanced radio wave use in medical institutions (for participants who are interested in introducing new communications technology)

Lecture 3: Actual use of next-generation PHS "private LTE/sXGP" on the premises and points on building Wi-Fi networks in the hospital (about one hour)

Lecturer: YAMASHITA Yoshinori, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Information, University of Fukui Hospital

  • This lecture is the same as one delivered as "FY2021 Seminar on Radio Wave Use in Medical Institutions" by the Shikoku Bureau of Telecommunications (held on November 26, 2021, and distributed from December 13 to 31, 2021).
