October 31, 2022 Results of Solicitation of Opinions on Draft Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services and Publication of the Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services and Information Disclosure Guidelines for Safety and Reliability of ASP/SaaS (Third Edition)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited opinions on the draft Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services from Tuesday, July 26, through Wednesday, August 24, 2022. As a result, 15 opinions were submitted. MIC has compiled a summary of the submitted opinions and MIC's own views thereon, and has decided to publish them along with the Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services and the Information Disclosure Guidelines for Safety and Reliability of ASP/SaaS (Third Edition), which has been revised to reflect the content of the aforementioned guidelines for cloud service settings.

1. Overview

In recent years, businesses operating cloud services have more frequently experienced incidents that could lead to an information leak, which has become a social problem as a risk associated with the use of cloud services.
Accordingly, to encourage the adoption of appropriate settings in using and providing cloud services, MIC studied measures to promote the safe and secure use of cloud services, encourage, while seeking the opinions of experts.
Based on the study results, MIC drafted the Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services drafted and solicited opinions on the draft from Tuesday, July 26, through Wednesday, August 24, 2022, and received 15 opinions in response.
MIC undertook deliberations informed by the submitted opinions and finalized the Guidelines for Appropriate Settings for Using and Providing Cloud Services. Accordingly, MIC has decided to disclose the guidelines to the public, along with the submitted opinions and MIC's views thereon.
In addition, to reflect the content of these guidelines, MIC revised the Information Disclosure Guidelines for Safety and Reliability of ASP/SaaS (Second Edition), which was published in March 2017, and has decided to publish the revised guidelines as the Information Disclosure Guidelines for Safety and Reliability of ASP/SaaS (Third Edition).
