November 15, 2022 Implementation of 85th National Emergency Communication Drill

The Central Emergency Communication Conference (chaired by TAKEMURA Koichi, Director-General of the Telecommunications Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC)), together with the regional Emergency Communication Conference in each area, has decided to conduct the 85th national emergency communication drill.

1. Date of implementation and participating prefectures, related organizations, etc.

Drill dates: Wednesday, November 16, Tuesday, November 22, Thursday, November 24, Tuesday, November 29, and Wednesday, November 30, 2022
Participating organizations: 47 prefectures, 134 municipalities, central government agencies, electric power companies, and others

2. Outline of drill

As an activity of the Central and Regional Emergency Communications Councils, emergency communication drills will be held in each prefecture to help ensure smooth communication in emergencies.
In the event of a large-scale disaster, information transmission methods for emergencies (including emergency communication routes, the use of mutual radio communications for disaster prevention, and mobile communications devices for disaster countermeasures) should be considered. On the assumption that normal communication methods cannot be used, the drill will secure and verify the effectiveness of such communication methods. At the same time, the drill aims to improve the awareness of emergency communication among the drill participants by collaborating with related organizations.
