February 1, 2022 Call for Proposals for Information and Communications Technology R&D

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) announces call a for proposals for a new research and development (R&D) theme of information and communications technologies from Tuesday, February 1 through Thursday, March 3, 2022.

1. Period of the call for proposals

From Tuesday, February 1 to 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022.

2. R&D themes

MIC invites research proposals for the following R&D themes.

R&D theme Fiscal 2022

R&D of Advanced Optical Transmission Technology for a Green Society 1.4 billion yen

Theme I 10 Tbps-class Optical Transmission Technology 900 million yen
Theme II High-capacity, High-multiplex Optical Access Network Transmission Technology 500 million yen

3. Method of application

  1. 1.
    Prepare a written proposal following the guidelines for preparing written proposals.

  2. 2.
    Make an online application by entering application information through theCross-ministerial Research and Development Management System (called “e-Rad” for short).Open a new window (Complete all application operations on the system by 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022.)

4. Selection of contractor candidate and future schedule

External experts and specialists will evaluate proposals submitted following MIC’s Guidelines for the Evaluation of Information and Communications Research (6th Edition). Based on the evaluation results, MIC will select the implementing organizations. The implementing organization will conclude a consignment contract with MIC to conduct this R&D.
If no proposals meeting the requirements are submitted, MIC will again invite proposals.

  • Future schedule
    • Evaluation of proposals by external experts and specialists
    • Determination and announcement of the contractor, (the names of the selected R&D organizations and the principal investigators will be announced), and conclusion of the contracts
