February 2, 2022 Authorization of Change to the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry today to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chaired by HIBINO Takashi, Chairman of the Board, Daiwa Securities Group Inc.) concerning authorization for a change to the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules (hereafter referred to as the “Reception Rules”) applied by NHK(headed by MAEDA Terunobu , President) based on the provision of Article 64, Paragraph 3 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132 of 1950). A report was received from the Council stating its approval as inquired.
In response to this report, MIC’s will promptly make authorization for this matter.

1. Summary of change

In light of the development of the information and communications technology usage environment, NHK is using the Internet and other means to provide notices regarding receiving fees and information on procedures for the Broadcast Receiving Contracts. That way, NHK intends to improve convenience for receivers and reduce costs by increasing the efficiency of solicitation of contracts and collection of receiving fees activities. NHK plans to have receivers report their telephone numbers and email addresses when entering into the Broadcast Receiving Contract.

2. Time of implementation

The amendments will come into effect on April 1, 2022.
