February 3, 2022 Eighth New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G Era

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will sponsor the eighth New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G Era. This seminar is an initiative of the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center (co-headed by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and YANAGAWA Noriyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo).

1. Purpose

On December 18, 2020, MIC launched the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center (co-headed by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and YANAGAWA Noriyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo). The purpose of the Beyond 5G New Business Strategy Center is to strategically acquire intellectual property and standardize with the participation of major industry-academia-government players toward the Beyond 5G era.
The center encourages private companies, universities, and other organizations to proactively and strategically promote the formation of markets and new market entry, the development and social implementation of innovative technologies and services by making full use of intellectual property and standardization. Therefore, MIC will support these efforts, provide reference information and a place for collaboration, and promote dissemination, and enlightenment.
As part of the efforts of the Center, The eighth New Business Strategy Seminar for the Beyond 5G era under the theme of “Beyond 5G from a Global Perspective” will be held for IP department managers, international standardization and R&D department managers, researchers, etc.

Mr. FUJIOKA Masanobu, CTO of Ericsson Japan, and Mr. YANAGIBASHI Tatsuya, CTO of Nokia Solutions and Networks Japan, will speak as lecturers at the seminar. They will introduce their companies’ initiatives. Then, a panel discussion, moderated by Ms. SUNADA Kaoru, Executive Research Fellow Master (Sociology) at the Center for Global Communications (GLOCOM) and President/Representative Director of the Information Systems Society of Japan, will be held. The panelists will discuss what the Beyond 5G era should look like from a global perspective.
