February 4, 2022 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Basic Plan on R&D for Expansion of Radio Wave Resources for FY2022

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will make an appeal from Saturday, February 5 through Monday, March 7, 2022, on a draft of a basic plan on research and development to be newly implemented in and after FY2022.

1. Overview

MIC is conducting research and development (R&D) for expanding radio wave resources to alleviate the spectrum crunch and effectively use radio waves to respond to the expanding needs of radio waves.
Before making a public appeal for proposals for three new R&D projects to be newly implemented in and after FY2022, MIC has decided to make an appeal for a wide range of opinions on the draft basic plan that describes the contents, technical issues, and goals R&D to be achieved.

Submission deadline: No later than Monday, March 7, 2022. If submitted by postal mail, opinions must also arrive no later than the deadline.

3. Future plans

MIC will formulate a basic plan based on the opinions received and promptly make a public appeal for R&D proposals.

4. Other considerations

MIC has decided to make this public appeal before the FY2022 budget bill passes the Diet so that this program can be started promptly after the budget bill passes the Diet. Therefore, it should be kept in mind that the implementation of the program is subject to change according to the passage of the budget bill.
