February 4, 2021 Results of Appeal for Opinions on Drafted Final Report of Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure

A Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure (chaired by OHASHI Hiroshi, Dean, Graduate School of Public Policy, The University of Tokyo) recently drafted a final report. Accordingly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, December 23, 2021 through Friday, January 21, 2022. In this connection, MIC will open the submitted opinions to the public, along with the Study Group’s views on the opinions.

1. Background

Since Friday, April 3, 2020, the Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure has been conducting a specialized and intensive study on broadband infrastructure centered on institutional aspects to respond to the diversification of services essential to people’s lives and ensure sustainable provision of those services.
At the Study Group’s 17th meeting held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the original draft of the Final Report of Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure was discussed. The drafted Final Report of the Study Group on the Future of Broadband Infrastructure was then deliberated and prepared. Accordingly, MIC made the appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, December 23, 2021 through Friday, January 21, 2022.
In response to the opinions submitted, a draft of the Study Group’s views on the opinions was reported at the 18th meeting held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, and the draft of the views was approved. Accordingly, MIC has decided to open the results of the appeal for opinions, along with the Study Group’s views on the opinions.

2. Results of appeal for opinions

MIC made an appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, December 23, 2021 through Friday, January 21, 2022, and as a result, 23 opinions were submitted.
