April 7, 2022 Status of Occurrence of Acts of Unauthorized Computer Access and Progress of Research and Development on Technology Relating to Access Control Features

The National Police Agency (NPA), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hereby publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features, pursuant to Article 10, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access (Act No. 128 of 1999, hereinafter referred to as the “Unauthorized Computer Access Act”).

1. Outline

It is necessary to establish an environment that makes it difficult for unauthorized computer access to occur for the prevention of crime related to computers committed through telecommunications lines and maintenance of order in telecommunications realized by access control features.
Accordingly, the NPA, MIC, and METI publicize information on the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features, pursuant to Article 10, Paragraph 1 of the Unauthorized Computer Access Act.*

Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access (Excerpt)

Article 10 (1) To help protect specified computers with an access control feature from acts of unauthorized computer access, the National Public Safety Commission, Minister for Internal Affairs and Telecommunications, and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry are to publicize the status of the occurrence of acts of unauthorized computer access and progress of research and development on technology relating to access control features at least once a year.
