April 15, 2022 Publication of the Second Summary of the Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality

The Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held meetings and recently compiled a report titled "Second Summary-Toward the Construction of a New Platform for a Digital Society." Accordingly, MIC releases this report to the public.

The Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality has held meetings since November 2020 to study how to realize an environment where citizens can conduct various online procedures and services in any place and at any time with only a smartphone, by installing smartphones with electronic certificates of the Public Certification Service for Individuals, or Japanese Public Key Infrastructure (JPKI) (hereinafter the Smartphone Electronic Certificate).
Recently, the study group compiled a report titled "Second Summary-Toward the Construction of a New Platform for a Digital Society" based on the results of their study so far, focusing on the direction of initiatives for the Smartphone Electronic Certificate. Accordingly, MIC has decided to release this report to the public.
