May 4, 2022 Results of Talks between Mr. KANEKO, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Rt Hon Nadine Dorries, Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport of the United Kingdom

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Mr. KANEKO Yasushi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, held talks with the Rt Hon Nadine Dorries, Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) of the United Kingdom, and exchanged opinions on important policy issues in the digital fields of the two countries.

At the talks on May 4, 2022, Mr. Kaneko and the Rt Hon Nadine Dorries exchanged opinions on cooperation between Japan and the United Kingdom in the digital field.

Based on the awareness that it is becoming increasingly important to secure safety and reliability in the digital space in light of the recent international circumstances, they confirmed the necessity to deepen cooperation between Japan and the United Kingdom in the digital field.
Specifically, they confirmed that the two countries will cooperate in promoting international initiatives to secure safety and reliability in the digital space.
They also confirmed that: in order to realize a digital society, it is absolutely vital for communication services to be safe, secure and reliable and be provided smoothly; and it is important to ensure mutual understanding and international harmonization regarding systems involved in the course of providing information and communications services across borders.

In addition, in order to deepen cooperation between Japan and the United Kingdom in the digital field, the UK-Japan Digital Group was set up on the same day as a director-general-level meeting through which the related government ministries and agencies of the two countries will promote cooperation in the digital field.
