May 12, 2022 Launch of Japan-EU Digital Partnership

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, Japan and the EU launched the Japan-EU Digital Partnership. The partnership will cover digital priorities shared by Japan and the EU, with the Digital Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as the main contributors from Japan, and the European Commission (EC)'s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) as those from the EU.

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, the 28th Japan-EU Summit was held in Tokyo as a face-to-face meeting (attended by KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, with H.E. Mr. Charles Michel, President of the European Council and H.E. Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission), and the Japan-EU Digital Partnership was launched.
The partnership will cover digital priorities shared by Japan and the EU, with the Digital Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as the main contributors from Japan, and the European Commission (EC)'s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect) as those from the EU.
A ministerial-level meeting based on this partnership (the Japan-EU Digital Partnership Council) will be held once a year, and the Digital Agency and the EC's DG Connect will be in charge of coordination.
