May 13, 2022 Announcement of FY2021 Results of Development Demonstrations for Realizing Local 5G Services to Solve Issues

In FY2021, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) conducted 26 development demonstrations for realizing local 5G services to solve local issues. MIC announces the summary of the results of these demonstration projects and also announces the outline of the demonstration projects scheduled in FY2022.

  Summary of the FY2021 Results With the aim of realizing flexible operations of local 5G networks and low-priced and safe use of local 5G services, MIC has conducted technical studies since FY2020 on radio wave propagation under various usage environments assuming a wide range of actual usage situations. Simultaneously, MIC has been working on development demonstrations for realizing local 5G services to solve issues to create solutions utilizing local 5G. MIC has compiled a summary of the results of the 26 demonstration projects conducted in FY2021.

  Projects scheduled in FY2022
  The results of the demonstrations conducted in FY2020 and FY2021 show that radio wave propagation and other topics need to be further studied. Accordingly, in FY2022, MIC will conduct development demonstrations and demonstrations under special environments, aiming to obtain detailed data on these topics and creating solutions utilizing local 5G.
  In addition, for the purpose of promoting the spread and deployment of local 5G while maintaining stable radio wave propagation for terminals applied when using local 5G, MIC will conduct test production of terminal systems in order to study those systems according to specific ways of using local 5G and obtain detailed data on radio wave propagation when using respective terminal systems under special environments, such as an environment where multiple local 5G base stations cover a certain size of area.
