May 18, 2022 Approval of Establishment Plan for Specified Base Stations for Diffusion of 5G Mobile Communications Systems in the 2.3 GHz Band

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) today consulted the Radio Regulatory Council on the approval of an establishment plan for specified base stations for diffusion of fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications systems in the 2.3 GHz Band. MIC received a report from the Radio Regulatory Council stating that the plan would be appropriate. Considering the report, MIC assigned a frequency and granted approval for the establishment plan of an applicant, with conditions attached.

1. Report from the Radio Regulatory Council

Under the Guidelines for the Establishment of Specific Base Stations for the Diffusion of the Fifth-generation (5G) Mobile Communications System in the 2.3 GHz Band (MIC Notice No. 51 of 2022), MIC invited applications for the approval of establishment plans for specified base stations from Monday, February 28 through Thursday, March 31, 2022, on condition that the specified base stations use a frequency exceeding 2,330 MHz and not exceeding 2,370 MHz, and received one application. After conducting examination and evaluation of this application, MIC consulted the Radio Regulatory Council on the approval of the establishment plan and received a report from the Radio Regulatory Council stating that the plan would be appropriate.

2. Approval of the establishment plan

Considering the report from the Radio Regulatory Council, MIC assigned a frequency as follows and granted approval for the establishment plan of an applicant, with conditions attached.

  • KDDI Corporation/Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company: a frequency exceeding 2,330 MHz and not exceeding 2,370 MHz
