May 20, 2022 Survey on Differences in Telecommunications Service Charges between Domestic and Overseas Markets

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) surveys differences in telecommunications service charges between domestic and overseas markets every fiscal year to appropriately grasp the state of telecommunications service charges. MIC has recently summarized the FY2021 survey results and hereby discloses them.

1. Survey targets

MIC surveyed mobile phone, FTTH, and landline services in six cities: Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, Düsseldorf, and Seoul.

2. Survey method

MIC collected data on mobile phone, FTTH, and landline phone charges based on public information and compared model charges^*1 and monthly charges^*2.

  The total amount of monthly payments required according to a usage style (model) based on the number of communications, call time, number of emails sent and received, and data traffic, which is used to compare the communication charges in the target cities.

  Including basic charges, calling charges, communications charges, and expenses for subscription/moving specified by each business operator in the terms and conditions for users.
