May 27, 2022 Material Support for Ukraine

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will provide fire-fighting/rescue materials and equipment and communications devices to the Ukraine government as relief goods, with the cooperation of domestic fire defense headquarters and private-sector organizations/enterprises.

In April 2022, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine sent a letter requesting material support to Mr. KANEKO Yasushi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan.

In response, from among the requested supplies, MIC will secure 25 items of fire-fighting/rescue materials and equipment, and communications devices, totaling approximately 30 tons, with the cooperation of domestic fire defense headquarters (the Tokyo Fire Department and headquarters in 20 designated cities) and private-sector organizations/enterprises, and provide them to the Ukraine government.

The relief supplies will be transported by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) by making use of the Emergency Grant Aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Air transportation will start this month, and the relief supplies will be handed over at a depot in Poland for relief supplies to Ukraine.

1. Fire-fighting/rescue materials and equipment

Fireproof clothes, fireproof headgear, fireproof gloves, fire-fighting boots, helmets, protective goggles, hydraulic jacks, stretchers, etc.

    The supplies will be provided by the Tokyo Fire Department, the fire defense headquarters of cities designated by cabinet order, and private-sector organizations.
