June 17, 2022 Release of Japan Post Holdings and Japan Post Monitoring Report 2022

In February 2022, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) set up a postal administration monitoring meeting, which aims to strengthen MIC’s supervision system in postal administration and promote proper monitoring of the business sector with the advice of experts.
MIC compiled a report of the results of its monitoring based on the discussion at the monitoring meeting and the follow-up on the requests attached by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications to the approval granted to Japan Post Holdings and Japan Post for their FY2021 Business Plans.

1. Outline

Based on the discussion at the postal administration monitoring meeting, MIC compiled the Japan Post Holdings and Japan Post Monitoring Report 2022. In consideration of the fact that the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications had attached requests when granting approval in March 2021 to Japan Post Holdings and Japan Post for their FY2021 Business Plans, MIC compiled this report of the results of its monitoring based on the follow-up on these requests.
By preparing this monitoring report, MIC clarifies its awareness of the current situation and challenges of the Japan Post Group and the direction of desirable initiatives that the group should carry out. Through this, MIC aims to strengthen its supervision functions and increase the transparency of its supervision on the Japan Post Group. MIC expects this report to be used as a tool for the dialogue between MIC and the Japan Post Group toward achieving the sustainable growth of the Japan Post Group.
