June 27, 2022 Adoption of Indirectly Subsidized Entities by Fund Establishment Corporation Relating to Project on Strengthening Digital Infrastructure by Decentralizing Data Centers, Submarine Cables, and Other Facilities under FY2021 Supplementary Budget

With regard to the Project on Strengthening Digital Infrastructure by Decentralizing Data Centers, Submarine Cables, and Other Facilities implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the fund establishment corporation adopted indirectly subsidized entities for the establishment of data centers, etc.

1. Overview

The Project on Strengthening Digital Infrastructure by Decentralizing Data Centers, Submarine Cables, and Other Facilities implemented by MIC supports the location of digital infrastructure, including data centers, submarine cables, and Internet Exchanges (IX), in local areas.
This project establishes a Digital Infrastructure Development Fund (a fund for promoting the development of specified telecommunications facilities), and uses this fund as a financial resource to provide subsidies to organizations, such as private operators that develop digital infrastructure.

2. Adoption of indirectly subsidized entities

The fund establishment corporation made a public solicitation for indirectly subsidized entities from May 13 through June 10, 2022, and adopted indirectly subsidized entities after examining the application details.
This public solicitation targeted private operators that would engage in establishment of data centers, etc. Indirectly subsidized entities for establishing submarine cables, cable landing stations, and IX will be solicited in fall this year.
