July 12, 2022 Results of Solicitation of Opinions on Partial Revisions to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan, etc. and Recommendation from Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) publishes the results of the solicitation of opinions on partial revisions to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan, etc.
In addition, MIC also received today a recommendation from the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council concerning the matters consulted with the council on May 27, 2022 based on the results of the solicitation of opinions.

1. Background and outline of systems

Based on the report of the Information and Communication Council, "Ideal state of telecommunications number system to create diverse services in digital society," dated December 8, 2021, and other materials, the Telecommunications Numbering Plan (MIC Notice No. 6 of 2019) and related systems will be revised in order to take measures such as institutionalizing rules for providing telephone numbers and call forwarding services, toward the improvement of various issues concerning telephone numbers and call forwarding services and sound development of the industry.

2. Results of solicitation of opinions and recommendation

With respect to the partial changes to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan, etc., MIC solicited opinions from Saturday, May 28, through Monday, June 27, 2022. As a result, nine opinions were submitted. Today, the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council held a discussion based on the opinions submitted. As a result of this discussion, MIC received a recommendation that it is appropriate to revise the Telecommunications Numbering Plan as consulted.

3. Future schedule

In consideration of this recommendation, MIC will promptly effect the revisions to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan and the related ministerial orders.
