July 13, 2022 Selection of Proposals as candidates for FY2022 Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues

Through the collaboration among the relevant ministries (the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)), a public solicitation for FY2022 smart city projects was implemented for the period from April 5 to May 16, 2022. In response to this solicitation, the following proposals were received in relation to the "Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues."
MIC has selected 13 proposals as candidates for FY2022 "Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues", based on the evaluation by the Joint Review Committee for Projects Related to Smart Cities, and announces the proposals selected.

1. Outline

FY2021 smart city projects use the common reference architecture, a standard design concept for smart cities. This concept is an outcome of the Cabinet Office’s fiscal 2019 project, "Cross-Ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) Phase 2: Big Data and AI-Enabled Cyberspace Technologies/Architecture Construction and Empirical Research." The relevant authorities are working together under the agreement of a Smart City Task Force.
MIC made a public solicitation for the FY2022 Smart City Promotion Projects for Solving Community Issues from Tuesday, April 5 through Monday, May 16, 2022. This is a project for subsidizing a part of expenses required for the initial investment for installing (including the development and refurbishment) City operating systems (OS) (data exchange infrastructure) that meet the Smart City Reference Architecture and/or introducing services, data and assets for connection with the City OS by local government entities engaged in smart city initiatives, so as to solve various issues faced by communities and to revitalize and develop local communities.

2. Results of selection

As a result of the solicitation, the following 13 projects were selected as candidates for adoption based on the evaluation results of the Joint Review Committee for Projects Related to Smart Cities.*
