July 28, 2022 Receipt of Serious Accident Report from KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company

Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a serious accident report from KDDI Corporation (TAKAHASHI Makoto, President, Representative Director) and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company (SUGA Takashi, Representative Director and President). This report was made under Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act (Act No. 86 of 1984) concerning a communications failure in mobile phone services that occurred on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

1. Background

On Saturday, July 2, 2022, KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company experienced a communications failure with their mobile phone services.
Today, the companies submitted to MIC a serious incident report on the circumstances, cause, recurrence prevention measures, and other matters concerning the failure based on Article 28 of the Telecommunications Business Act.

2. Future schedule

MIC will examine the contents of the report and consider necessary measures.
