August 4, 2022 Solicitation of Opinions on Draft Notice for Partial Revision of Dissemination Plan for Basic Broadcasting

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) prepared a draft notice for partial revision of the Dissemination Plan for Basic Broadcasting (MPT Notice No. 660 of 1988). Accordingly, MIC will solicit opinions on the draft notice from Friday, August 5, through Thursday, September 8, 2022.

1. Outline of revision

    Regarding the positioning of right-handed circularly polarized waves
    Right-handed circularly polarized waves will be positioned as transmission channels for not only high definition television broadcasting and standard television broadcasting, but also ultra-high definition television broadcasting, as in the case with left-handed circularly polarized waves.

    Regarding revision of other provisions
    The target number of broadcast programs of private core broadcasting operators will be revised and the provisions will be updated by taking into account the current situation.

From Friday, August 5, through Thursday, September 8, 2022 (Opinions must be received by no later than this deadline.)

Information on this solicitation of opinions will be posted on the "Press Release" page of MIC's website, as well as on the public comment page of the e-Gov, and will also be distributed on MIC's website and the e-Gov.

5. Note

After the solicitation period, MIC will compile and publish the submitted opinions. Please understand that MIC is not able to give any specific answer to individual opinions submitted.

6. Future schedule

MIC will revise the Dissemination Plan for Basic Broadcasting after holding discussions based on submitted opinions and consulting with the Radio Regulatory Council.
