August 25, 2022 Release of Second Report from Study Group on Platform Services and Results of Solicitation of Opinions

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited opinions from Tuesday, July 5, through Wednesday, August 3, 2022, on the draft of the Second Report from the Study Group on Platform Services (chaired by SHISHIDO Joji, professor, Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, The University of Tokyo). MIC releases the second report, which has been finalized based on the results of the solicitation of opinions, and also discloses the solicitation results.

Background

The study group discussed how to deal with illegal and harmful information on the Internet and how to handle user information, and compiled a draft of the second report at its 38th session held on Thursday, June 30, 2022. As a result of soliciting opinions on the draft from Tuesday, July 5, through Wednesday, August 3, 2022, MIC received 29 opinions.
As the Second Report from the Study Group on Platform Services has been finalized based on the received opinions and the results of discussions at the 39th session of the study group held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, MIC releases the finalized report.
