September 12, 2022 Result of Solicitation of Opinions on Draft Report of Working Group on Appropriate Handling of User Information and Publication of Report

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) solicited opinions from Thursday, August 4, through Thursday, August 25, 2022, on a Draft Report of the Working Group on Appropriate Handling of User Information formulated by the Working Group (chaired by OHASHI Hiroshi, Vice President of the University of Tokyo, and Professor at Graduate School of Economics, the University of Tokyo).
As a result, 26 opinions were submitted and the Report of the Working Group on Appropriate Handling of User Information has been finalized based on the submitted opinions. Accordingly, MIC has decided to publish the report along with the results of the solicitation of opinions.

1. Background

As a working group (WG) under the Study Group on Governance of Cybersecurity and Data in Telecommunications Business, MIC has held sessions of the WG on Appropriate Handling of User Information since June 17, 2022, to discuss details of rules on the appropriate handling of specified user information by telecommunications carriers in consideration of the Act Partially Amending the Telecommunications Business Act (Act No. 70 of 2022).
The WG formulated a Draft Report of the Working Group on Appropriate Handling of User Information. MIC solicited opinions on the draft from Thursday, August 4 through Thursday, August 25, 2022, and received 26 opinions.
Based on the results of this solicitation of opinions, the Report of the Working Group on Appropriate Handling of User Information has been finalized. Accordingly, MIC has decided to publish the report along with the results of the solicitation of opinions.
